Millions of Americans lack access to health care. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, approximately 30 million people in the United States are uninsured. In addition, many individuals are underinsured and cannot afford to pay for medical procedures or medications. This leaves countless Americans without access to quality and affordable health care, leaving them at risk for serious medical issues. The lack of health care disproportionately affects minority populations, the elderly, and those with low-incomes. Without adequate access to health care, these individuals are unable to receive the medical attention they need, putting their health and wellbeing at risk.

Puerto Rico is an unincorporated US territory, and as such, its citizens are US citizens. While most US citizens have access to free health care, the situation in Puerto Rico is a bit different. However, they do have access to the Puerto Rico Health Insurance Program, a government-funded program that provides basic health care services to residents of the island. So while there is no free health care in Puerto Rico, there are options available for those who need coverage.
